Electromechanical Elevators

The most common elevator systems worldwide are electro-mechanical elevator systems. Running mechanism is based on a motor drive producing power, conveyed to the elevator car over pulleys and ropes. They are divided into three basic types as; "geared", "gearless" and "no machinery roomed" systems.

"Geared systems" are preferable for elevators with less than 75 m length of travel distances and under 1,6 m/sec speeds, whereas "gearless systems" are generally used for elevators with higher travel distances and require faster speeds, such as skyscrapers, dams, towers etc. Apart from these two standard types, there is another one which is designed considering the lack of enough space for a machinery room. The drive, control panel and other hardware are set inside the shaft itself. Uzay Asansör has successfully applied each of these systems in almost a thousand elevators.
